o      A student may place directly into 10524 Calculus I by passing an online placement test offered by the Department of Mathematics.

o      To register for the placement test, a student must email mathtest@tcu.edu with the following information:

First name, middle initial, last name, TCU ID number

The administrator will respond with instructions on how to take the test.

o      Students will have only one opportunity per semester to take the test.

o      The test consists of 25 multiple-choice questions covering Precalculus and Trigonometry.  Students will have 1 hour to complete the test.

o      Students may use calculators, but CAS (Computer Algebra System) calculators such as the TI-89 are not allowed, as they are not allowed in our Calculus classes.

o      It is expected that the student complete the test on his own, without help from others, textbooks, unapproved technology, or notes.  The purpose of this placement test is to assess whether the student has sufficient background to succeed in 10524.  Outside help on the placement test will only prove detrimental to a student who enrolls in a class for which he is not sufficiently prepared.

o      Copies of satisfactory AP or SAT Subject Test scores must be provided or be on file with the TCU Registrar in order to use these as prerequisites to register for MATH 10524.  A student awaiting these scores may choose to take the online placement test.
